Blogger’s Quilt Festival Spring 2012

I can’t believe it’s time for another BQF already! I am so excited to be able to participate in this time!! If you’ve never been on the blog-hop before, I suggest taking a stroll through all the amazing quilts showcased! I had so much fun browsing all of the other quilters blogs. I really loved making this quilt and every thing about it is so perfectly me and, that’s why I will be sharing it with you.

I have been wanting an aqua and pink quilt for quite some time. I saw the Domestic Bliss fabric and I knew that I wanted to pair it up with some aqua solids but I was on the hunt for the perfect pattern when Katy hosted the Hop-a-long. This was exactly what I had been looking for! A pattern that would showcase the fabric line as well as the aqua solids in a way where neither one competed with the other. I had never worked with this many bias cut fabrics before and during the quilt-a-long I read that many quilters were suggesting using spray starch to help keep everything lined up… I had never worked with spray starch before either! This quickly became a quilt of many firsts for me.

I found that not all spray starches were made alike and that I much prefer Faultless brand over Niagara because the Niagara yellowed on me! Pink and aqua are my colors.. I love them together and I always have.. so I was extremely excited about finishing this one. Despite my fears of it being a difficult finish, it really was not. I love pretty much all of Camille’s patterns so no surprises here.

I also used a new-to-me binding technique to help the binding lay flatter. I really like it and plan to use it on all of my quilts. I’ve made a mental note to photograph the process for the next quilt so I can share it with you! I didn’t think about taking pics of the binding for this quilt but I really wish I had :( but the technique is really very simple, just a simple zigzag all around the edges. If you have a serger I imagine this would work too!
